Frequently asked questions

What is AVIF format?
AVIF (AV1 Image File Format) is a next-generation image format based on the AV1 video codec. It offers superior compression compared to JPEG, PNG, and even WebP, but isn't yet supported by all image editing software and platforms.
Why convert AVIF to JPG?
JPG is universally supported across all apps, operating systems, printers, and social media platforms. If an app can't open your AVIF file, converting to JPG will solve the compatibility issue instantly.
Will there be quality loss?
Some quality loss is inherent since AVIF was already compressed and JPG applies additional lossy compression. Set quality to 92–95% to minimise visible degradation. For archival purposes, use the highest quality setting.
Is my file uploaded to a server?
No. Conversion happens entirely in your browser using native AVIF decoding. Your images never leave your device.
What happens to transparency in AVIF files?
JPG does not support transparency. Any transparent areas in the AVIF are filled with white. If you need to preserve transparency, convert to PNG instead.
Can I convert multiple AVIF files at once?
Yes. The tool supports batch conversion — drop multiple AVIF files and download them all as JPGs in one click.
Which browsers support AVIF decoding?
Chrome 85+, Firefox 93+, Safari 16.4+, and Edge 121+ can decode AVIF natively. If your browser is older, the conversion will fail with an error message.
What quality setting should I use?
For photographs shared online, 85–92% offers an excellent size-to-quality trade-off. For images requiring archival quality, use 95%+. For thumbnails and web images where size matters most, 75–80% works well.
How large will the JPG be compared to the AVIF?
JPG files are typically 2–3x larger than equivalent AVIF files. AVIF achieves significantly better compression than JPG, so you'll see an increase in file size after conversion.
Can I use this tool on mobile?
Yes. The tool works on any modern mobile browser — Chrome for Android, Safari on iPhone/iPad, and others.

Convert AVIF images to universally compatible JPG format directly in your browser.

AVIF is based on the AV1 video codec and offers exceptional compression, but many

image editors, social platforms, and older apps still cannot open AVIF files.

Converting to JPG gives you a file that works everywhere — no plugins, no software

installation required.

Use the quality slider to control the compression trade-off: higher values (90–95%)

preserve near-original detail, while lower values (70–80%) shrink the file size

further. Transparent areas in the AVIF are automatically filled with white since JPG

does not support alpha transparency.

The tool supports batch conversion — drop multiple AVIF files at once and download

them all in a single click. All processing runs client-side using your browser's

native AVIF decoder; your images never leave your device. Chrome 85+, Firefox 93+,

Safari 16.4+, and Edge 121+ are supported.
