Frequently asked questions

Does the tool upload my photos?
No. Face detection and blurring run entirely in your browser using WebAssembly. Your photos are never sent to any server — processing is completely private.
How accurate is the face detection?
The MediaPipe model performs well on frontal and near-frontal faces in reasonable lighting. Side profiles, very small faces (under ~50px), heavily obscured faces, or faces in poor lighting may be missed.
What if the AI misses some faces?
Use the Image Blur & Censor tool to manually draw blur regions over missed faces. Combining both tools gives complete coverage for any image.
What's the difference between blur and pixelate?
Blur applies a smooth Gaussian effect that softens and obscures facial features. Pixelate replaces the face area with large colour blocks (mosaic effect). Both effectively conceal identity.
Is this tool GDPR compliant?
Blurring faces before publication helps meet GDPR Article 4 requirements for pseudonymization of personal data in photos. All processing is local — no facial data is transmitted to any server. Consult your legal team for your specific compliance obligations.
Can I blur faces selectively?
Yes. Each detected face has an individual toggle — blur some faces while keeping others visible. Useful for protecting bystanders while keeping your subject identifiable.
What image formats are supported?
PNG, JPG/JPEG, WebP, and BMP files up to 50MB. Output is saved as PNG to preserve quality after blurring.
Does it work on mobile?
Yes. The tool works in any modern mobile browser. Touch controls are supported for toggling individual face panels.
Why are some faces not detected?
The model is optimized for frontal faces. Side profiles, very small faces, faces partially covered by hair or accessories, or images with extreme lighting conditions may not be detected. Use the manual blur censor tool for comprehensive coverage.

Protecting privacy in photos has never been faster. This AI-powered face blur tool uses

Google's MediaPipe face detection model (under 2MB) to automatically find every face in

your image, then lets you blur or pixelate them individually with a single toggle.

Per-face controls give you precise editing power: blur all faces with one click, or selectively

keep some visible while hiding others. Choose between smooth Gaussian blur (hazy, natural-looking)

or blocky pixelation (classic mosaic effect), and dial in the intensity with a strength slider.

Use cases span personal privacy and professional compliance: anonymizing group photos before

posting to social media, redacting identities for journalism or research, preparing images

for GDPR-compliant publication, censoring faces in user-generated content, and protecting

bystanders in street photography. For faces the AI misses — side profiles, very small faces,

or heavy occlusion — combine with the manual Image Blur & Censor tool.

All processing runs in your browser. Your photos are never uploaded to any server. The

MediaPipe model is under 2MB and loads quickly on any device.
