Frequently asked questions

What is HEIC format?
HEIC (High Efficiency Image Container) is Apple's default photo format on iPhones and iPads since iOS 11. It stores photos at roughly half the file size of JPG while maintaining the same visual quality, using the HEIF standard based on the HEVC/H.265 codec.
Why can't I open HEIC files on Windows?
Windows does not include HEIC support by default. You need either to install the HEIF Image Extensions from the Microsoft Store (paid on older Windows) or convert the file to JPG — which this tool does instantly, for free.
Is my file uploaded to a server?
No. The HEIC file is decoded and converted entirely in your browser. Your photos never leave your device.
Will the conversion lose quality?
HEIC is already a lossy format, and JPG applies additional lossy compression. Set quality to 92–95% to minimise visible quality loss. At 92%, most users cannot tell the difference.
Can I convert multiple HEIC files at once?
Yes. Drop multiple HEIC files and the tool converts them all to JPG, downloadable in a single batch.
Does HEIC support transparency?
HEIC technically supports transparency (via HEIF Alpha), but iPhone photos typically don't use it. JPG does not support transparency — any transparent areas would be filled with white.
What's the difference between HEIC and HEIF?
HEIF (High Efficiency Image Format) is the container standard; HEIC is the Apple-specific extension used for HEVC-encoded images. They are functionally identical for most purposes, and this tool handles both.
Can I use this tool on Android?
Yes. The tool works in any modern mobile browser, including Chrome on Android. You can also convert HEIC files received from iPhone users.
How do I prevent my iPhone from saving HEIC?
Go to Settings → Camera → Formats → Most Compatible. This switches iPhone photos to JPG. The HEIC to JPG converter is useful for files already saved in HEIC.
What quality setting should I use?
92% is the recommended default for sharing and social media. Use 95%+ for editing and archiving. Use 80–85% to minimise email attachment size.
Can I convert HEIC to PNG instead?
Yes. Use our HEIC to PNG tool for lossless output with transparency support.

Convert HEIC and HEIF photos to universally compatible JPG format directly in

your browser. iPhones and iPads have saved photos in HEIC format by default

since iOS 11 — it stores photos at half the file size of JPG with the same

visual quality. The problem: Windows PCs, Android devices, and most image

editors and websites cannot open HEIC files without additional software.

Converting to JPG solves the compatibility problem instantly. Use the quality

slider to control the output: 92% gives excellent quality in a compact file.

Higher settings (95%+) preserve maximum detail for editing; lower settings

(75–85%) shrink files further for email and social sharing.

Batch conversion is fully supported — drop multiple HEIC files at once and

download all JPGs in a single click. All processing runs client-side using

the heic2any library; your photos never leave your device. Works on Windows,

Mac, Android, and iPhone browsers.
